Kiyomizu Temple

Tamuramaro Sakanoue removed "Sinden", and build it in 807 (Daido 2). The main temple was reconstructed by Iemitsu Tokugawa who was the third Syogun in 1633 (Kanei 10).

The main temple is well known as spirit place and the worshipers visit it continuously.  Many cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Spring, many maples are at best in Autumn. Kiyomizu Temple overlooks the city of Kyoto.

Kiyomizu means clear water.  Kiyomizu Temple is one of the most famous temple in Kyoto.

Jishu Jinja (shrine) is situated next to the Kiyomizu Temple. For 1300 years, it is know by the Japanese as the dwelling place of the god of love and matchmaking. In front of the main building there are two stones about 20 meters apart.Jishu Jinja love stones If a person walks safely from one stone to the other with closed eyes, his or her love will be realized.

The god of the Jishu shrine is Okuninushi no mikoto. His story goes back to ancient Japan history: A rabbit gained what it wanted by deceiving others, it was forced to peel off its skin. Okuninushi, a sweet tempered god, healed the rabbit. That is why you see a lot of rabbit imagines here.
